Many people think that science requires lab experiments, which is a gross misunderstanding of science.  The Theory of Evolution doesn't need lab experiments for verification; it has the entire history of life on Earth.  It is a bonus that successful lab experiments have been done, using random mutation and survival of the fittest to create new bacteria.  Scientists at the Brookhaven National Laboratory developed new strains of bacteria that live in harsh environments while consuming carbon-rich materials such as oil and coal.  There are alsonew strains of bacteria (using new enzymes) that can digest byproducts of nylon manufacture.
